Installing Your Satellite Dish

Installing Your Satellite Dish

If you've subscribed to DirecTV or DIRECT TV Business, perhaps the most important step is installing your satellite dish. The first step in doing this is finding a place to mount your satellite dish; the location will need to be somewhere with a clear line of sight to your satellite. Your satellite provider can tell you which direction this is, based on where you live.

Next, solidly bolt down the mast, and then place the dish antenna on the mast without tightening the bolts. Now you'll need to deal with the low noise block-downconverter (LNB). Run your coaxial cable through your dish and out of the end where the LNB is, and then connect your cable to the LNB and affix it to the dish, utilizing supplied screws. Once these steps are complete, you'll need to adjust your dish's skew and elevation settings – the manual that came with your dish will tell you how.

Connect your coaxial cable to your meter; meters can be purchased at leading electronics stores or online, if necessary. Turn on your meter and sweep your dish around until you locate a satellite; your meter will indicate with a light or sound when this has occurred. You can also monitor your signal strength through a menu on your television.

After locating the strongest possible signal, tighten the dish's bolts. Make sure to leave enough flexibility so that you can loosen the elevation screws to rotate the dish reflector. Move the reflector up and down until you locate the best signal reading, and then tighten these bolts. Next, run your coaxial cable from the dish to your receiver. Connect the cable to the receiver, and the receiver to your television. Your owner's manual will help you complete installation from here. Now get ready to enjoy some premium television.
